Life Plans

So… in my packing frenzy of sorting thru boxes, books, and piles of paperwork last week I found a lot of things I’d forgotten about (or at least forgot the location of). In the piles I found two pieces of paper with lists of “my life in ___ years”. It was pretty funny to read through them.

One was a 10 year plan. Last year was the tenth year, so I guess it was eleven years ago when I sat down and wrote out a list of the things that I thought would have happened in my life by now. The funniest thing is the last line. It says “live _____ (state?)” which is exactly where I am right now. Exactly.

I mean, I know my destination, but there are a whole lot of details that are still a bit up in the air. Most of the other things on that list I’ve achieved or am in the midst of figuring out and pursuing.

The other piece of paper looks like it was more of a plan and list of my goals for my college years. One of the things on there I was totally wrong about. Well, not really wrong, it’s just that what I thought would happen is still far off in the future at this point and I’m quite a few years past college.

Maybe I will write another 10-year list. I don’t know what I would put on it; figuring out specific goals and plans will be part of the settling process once I move so I’ll have a little time to think about what might go on a new list. Although, I don’t really want to think about how old I’ll be 10 years from now.

How about you? Did you ever write one of those lists? And then find it years later and laugh or cry about what you thought your life would be like?
